DAFI Scholarship for University Students from Refugees and Asylum Seekers Registered with the UNHCR in Egypt for the Academic Year 2026-2027
About DAFI Scholarship
Under a cooperation agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the DAFI scholarship provides opportunities for a number of eligible refugee and asylum-seeking students to complete their university studies. The scholarships offered for the 2026-2027 academic year will support students residing in Egypt in obtaining a university degree.
What will this scholarship cover?
The benefits include (partial) reimbursement of study expenses, which consist of:
- Tuition fees.
- Transportation.
- Monthly stipend.
- Textbooks.
Application Requirements
- Applicants must be registered refugees or asylum seekers with the UNHCR office in Egypt.
- Applicants must hold a high school diploma and possess the original certificate.
- Applicants must not have previously obtained a university degree.
- Applicants must be no older than 28 years of age.
- Applicants must commit to completing their university studies in Egypt.
- Priority will be given to applicants with strong motivation to study and a clear plan for their future after graduation.
- Applicants must be academically outstanding and serious about completing their university studies.
- Applicants must not have a sibling currently enrolled in the DAFI scholarship program.
- Applicants must be enrolled or in the process of enrolling in any higher education institution in Egypt, including universities, higher institutes, and technical colleges.
Required Documents for Application
- A valid copy of the UNHCR registration card.
- A copy of the high school diploma showing the student’s grades.
- A copy of proof of enrollment at the university or technical institute (initial nomination/acceptance letter), if available by the application deadline.
- A copy of the original transcript for the current academic year(s) if the student is currently enrolled at a university in Egypt.
How to Apply?
- Applications must be submitted only through the DAFI platform between August 18, 2026, and September 12, 2026, at 11:59 PM Cairo time.
- You will first need to create a new account before you can begin your application.
- All required information must be provided (unless marked as optional).
Important Notes:
- The scholarship application form is free for all applicants.
- This scholarship will be awarded to a limited number of refugee and asylum-seeking students in Egypt for a maximum of four years.
- Applications will be disqualified if any of the required documents are missing.
- Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the implementing partner of UNHCR in Egypt for the DAFI program. The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) office is located in Building 34, Street 106, Maadi Gardens, Cairo.
- The deadline for applications is September 12, 2026, at 11:59 PM Cairo time. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
