Job Requirement

  1. A recognised postgraduate Counselling/Clinical Psychology degree and extensive expertise and experience in psychological counselling and group work, preferably in the tertiary education sector.
  2. Licensed and registered counsellor with a recognised registration board/professional body OR An accredited psychologist status with a reputable professional body/board, preferably The Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across diverse groups. The ability to collaborate with other medical professionals is also important.
  4. Understanding of issues faced by tertiary students.
  5. Demonstrated ability to devise sound operational plans, including program development, implementation and evaluation, as well as to contribute to strategic planning.
  6. High level of presentation and public speaking skills.

Job Description

  1. To provide counselling to student experiencing psycho-sociological problems that could be potentially disruptive to their successful academic, interpersonal and campus adjustment.
  2. To assist students in learning new and more effective ways to cope with stress and disappointment, resolve conflicts, deal with specific problems or habits, and manage their lives.
  3. To provide consultation and advice to campus staff and faculty and family members to assist in dealing with students who have emotional problems.
  4. To provide opportunities that unable students who may be experiencing personal, social or educational problems to work towards becoming more effective in their lives within and outside the institution.
  5. To assist and support students with the transition to university life.
  6. To provide developmental/preventative programmes and activities that assist students to become more effective and resourceful in their personal, social and academic life.
  7. To provide a psychological consultative/advisory/voluntary training service to teaching and other staff enabling them to maximise their effectiveness in carrying out their pastoral care, guidance and learner support roles.
  8. To develop the highest level of professional standards to ensure delivery of high quality, cost-effective counselling and psychological services to students.
  9. Ensure appropriate report writing and record keeping in accordance to ethical codes and standards.
