Chang Gung University (CGU) is featured as the top 2 private university in Taiwan among the Taiwanese universities participated in “The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024”, published by QS on December 5, 2023. This year’s QS Sustainability Ranking comprised of indicators designed to measure a university’s ability to tackle the world’s greatest environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges and featured 1,397 universities world-wide. In terms of the University Governance category (the “G” in the ESG), CGU is ranked 174 in the world, with the highest ranked performance indicators in Environmental Sustainability (World Rank 292), Equality (World Rank 425) and Health and Wellbeing (World 490).

Earning this excellent rank indicates CGU’s alumni and students are empowered to tackle the world’s greatest environmental, social and governance challenges. NOTE: The academic year (two semesters in each academic year) begins on August 1 and ends on July 31 of the following year. Fall semester classes usually begin in early September, and spring semester classes begin in mid-February of the following year. Each semester consists of 16 weeks.

Eligibility criteria

 Nationally

  1. An individual of foreign nationality, who has never held a nationality status from the Republic of China and who does not possess an overseas Chinese student status at the time of his/her application, is qualified to apply for admission.
  2. An individual of foreign nationality who complies with the “Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan” of the Ministry of Education (MOE).
    • A person who at the time of their application also holds dual R.O.C. nationality shall have never had household registration in Taiwan, and in the immediate past has resided overseas continuously for at least six years.
    • A person who before the time of their application also held dual R.O.C. nationality but no longer does at the time of their application shall have renounced their R.O.C. nationality with the approval of the Ministry of the Interior on a date at least eight full years before making their application. And, in the immediate past, have resided overseas continuously for at least six years.

 Educational qualifications

  1. An applicant with a high school diploma is eligible to apply for undergraduate programs (However, the applicant who has completed the courses of a study program in Taiwan as a foreign student is NOT eligible to apply for an undergraduate program); an applicant with a bachelor’s degree is eligible to apply for master’s degree programs; an applicant with a master’s degree is eligible to apply for doctoral programs at CGU.
  2. Applicants applying with a degree from Mainland China are subjected to the following regulations:
    • The university must be listed under MOE’s List of Recognized Higher Education Institutions in Mainland China (Chinese Version only).
    • The period of study must fulfill the requirements of the Regulations on Academic Qualifications from Mainland China (Chinese version only).
  3. Applicants applying with a degree from Hong Kong, or Macao are subjected to the following regulations:
    • The university must be listed under MOE’s List of Recognized Junior Colleges and Institutions of Higher Education in Hong Kong (Chinese version only); or the program, department, or institute must be recognized by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong or Macao, or by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications.
    • The applicant must meet the requirements stated in the Regulations Governing the Examination and Recognition of Educational Records from Hong Kong and Macao.

 Regulations Regarding International Students

The most up-to-date version of the “MOE Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan” can be found on the Ministry of Education (MOE) website (https://edu.law.moe.gov.tw/EngLawContent.aspx?lan=E&id=288). Applicants are recommended to visit the website before submitting the application. If the MOE regulations are revised, the latest MOE regulations shall prevail. Regarding the calculation of the duration of overseas residence, CGU conforms to Articles 2 & 3 of the “Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan” formulated by the Ministry of Education. The term “reside overseas continuously” means that an individual may stay in Taiwan for no more than a total of 120 days per calendar year.

In the Application System, you will provide:

  1. Personal information with a 2-inch x 2-inch photo (electronic upload). You will be able to save and edit before submission.
  2. Photocopy of the applicant’s passport (First two pages) or a nationality certificate of the applicant.(Individuals possessing ARC or other legal resident’s certificates, please provide a photocopy of the front and back of ARC if there’s any)
  3. Photocopy of the original graduation certificate of the highest academic degree (English / Chinese)
  4. Photocopy of the transcript/mark sheet of your highest academic degree with the grades/scores of all semesters/years (English / Chinese)
  5. Two letters of recommendation (subject to each department’s requirements)
  6. (Bank statements or records of remittance provided by the applicant or his/her relatives within the third degree of kinship (grandparents, parents, and siblings).
    • Bank statements or records of remittance supported by the applicant’s relatives must be submitted along with the household registration/ birth certificate/ family book which may prove the relationship of relative.
    • The amount showing on the bank statements or records of remittance, when the visa application is submitted, must be sufficient enough for at least a consecutive 6 months living needs.
    • The scholarship certificate must indicate the duration and the exact amount of the scholarship.
  7. Language Proficiency Test: Postgraduate Admissions: Test Results of TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, or GMAT/ Undergraduate Admissions: TOCFL or HSK
  8. Other merits for application, such as awards, distinguished performance, thesis…., etc.
  9. The evidence of remittance or Online Payment **The application fee should be paid by the application deadline in order to complete the application procedure. Payments, once made, are not refundable. Please upload the remittance slip/payment receipt after the remittance or payment is made.

Notification:

  1. Applicants with incomplete documentation must assume full responsibility for a rejected application.
  2. Late applications will not be accepted.
  3. Applications with unpaid application fees will not be processed.
