Scholarship Summary

The University of Warwick is a highly selective institution in the United Kingdom. It has an average intake of 4,950 undergraduates out of 38,071 applicants yielding 7.6 candidates per place. The University was formed in 1965 as a part of a government initiative to expand higher education institutions. It is a public research institution located right on the outskirts of Coventry, England.

The School of Engineering at the University of Warwick initiated the PhD studentship program in support of an awarded EPSRC grant in Data-driven Intelligent Energy Management System for a micro grid. This project consists of eight project partners which also includes the National Grid UK. Applications for the PhD studentship at University of Warwick are invited this year. The qualified student will be expected to collaborate with two postdocs that are working in this project along with other researchers in the project supervisor’s team. The studentship is intended for a three year duration and will start on October 1, 2019.

This project intends to develop an intelligent energy management system for a grid- connected microgrid that consists of distributed renewable energy sources, local loads and energy storages. This will optimize energy usage efficiency and make renewable generation more cost effective while minimizing environmental impact as well as provide ancillary services.

The studentship will cover an annual stipend at the standard rate which now amounts to £ 14,777 and cover the whole tuition costs at the UK/EU rate for three years.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Overseas students are welcome to apply provided they meet the difference in fees (consult Prof. Zhao for options)
  • Candidates should have obtained or expect to obtain by the commencement date at least a good 2.1 degree. A master’s degree is preferable or its equivalent from an overseas institution.
